Accommodation, travel and other useful information

The 5th NAHWOA Workshop in Denmark

November 11-13, 2001

Venue, costs and other useful information

Rødding Højskole (Tel 00 31 74 84 22 84; Fax 00 31 74 84 19 98; e-mail rodd-hsk@post7.tele.dk ), the venue of 5th and last of the NAHWOA Workshops, is an important place in the history of the Danish farmers’ co-operative movement and a modern conference and meeting centre, offering simple but comfortable accommodation in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.  It is situated in southern Denmark, some 60 km from the German border. A Danish language web-site is available at http://www.roedding-hoejskole.dk/ .

The venue is rather isolated from any major centres and the arrangements for accommodation and food are all inclusive. The isolation of the Højskole makes it difficult to organise alternative accommodation for delegates who join the Workshop from outside the partnership. NAHWOA is, therefore, subsidising the cost of the accommodation and food for the non-partner delegates so that the total cost for four nights and three days is EURO 250, payable at the Højskole.  It is also possible to stay for a shorter time and pay accordingly. Please contact the Højskole (contact detail at the web-site) for any queries on this. – Due to the difficulty of organising additional or alternative accommodation near the main venue, it is important that delegates – both partner and non-partner – register early, to ensure a place.

We have been told that the weather can be very rainy in Jutland at this time of the year. For the farm visits, and if you intend to spend any of the free time outdoors, be advised to take waterproof footware and other clothing with you.

Payment of board and accommodation by non-partners

You are required to pay the Euro 250 to the Danish Institute of Agricultural Science account before the Workshop. The Danish delegates should  pay by giro: GIROBANK 1199-2898.  Please mark you payment (on the giro form) with the code 'NAHWOA-1208'!

Delegates from ouside Denmark cn pay either by giro (number above) or by bank transfer to the following bank:
Danske Andelskassers Bank
Baneskellet 1, Hammershøj
DK 8830 Tjele.

Account no. 5999 - 4500896 and swift code DANB DK 22. The transfer should  be marked with the code 'NAHWOA-1208'.

(Please note that all partners' and invited speakers' expenses are paid by the NAHWOA in advance. You claim for you travel expenses after the event, as usual.)

Travel instructions

By air directly

Rødding can be reached by air via Billund International Airport, which is around 50 km from the Højskole. The Billund Airport web-site at www.billund-airport.dk is very useful for checking flight departures from that end. The journey from the airport to the workshop venue takes about 45 minutes by taxi.

There is also another possible airlink to Esbjerg Airport from England. The company is Ryan Air and they operate out of Stanstead  or Edinburgh. The distance from Esbjerg to Rødding is about 45 km, and the journey takes some 35 minutes by taxi.

Via Copenhagen by air and rail

Alternatively, you can fly to Copenhagen and take an Intercity train (these go every hour from the Central Railway Station in Copenhagen to direction Esbjerg) to Vejen, which is some 15 km from Rødding. Again, a 15 minute taxi journey from the railway station in Vejen will take you to the Højskole.

 By rail from Germany/South

If you arrive by rail from Germany or other countries south of Denmark, you should get of the train in Vamdrup (the trains coming from Germany have a destination Kolding, Arhus or Copenhagen), which is about 18 km from Rødding. A taxi will take you to the Højskole in 20 minutes.

 Taxis

We are told that taxis are available at all the above mentioned airports and railway stations and that they are used to taking visitors to Rødding. As the journeys are rather long and expensive (from 400 to 600 DKr, depending on the length of the journey), please look for other delegates to share the taxi journeys with you unless you have organised a lift with Mette in advance (see below). If you arrive at one of the airports or railway stations at odd hours and no taxis are available, please call the Højskole (phone number above, leave out 00 31) and we will organise a lift for you.

If you let Mette Vaarst know your exact arrival time and location, she will try and arrange several shared transports to Hòjskole for you. Please contact her at Mette.Vaarst@agrsci.dk as soon as you have made your travel arrangements and she will let you know if an arrangement has been made for your forward journey.

 By road

Arriving by car is fairly simple. Coming from north on the motorway E45 you turn of in Vejen for the direction of Vojens, or you can take the next exit at Brørup. The road from these exits is signposted for Rødding.

Coming from the south (Germany) on the motorway E45 towards Kolding, you turn off for Vamdrup and Tønder. The road from this exit is signposted for Rødding.
