VEERU
undertakes research,
consultancy and
training for a variety of clients. Defra has been a major client for VEERU’s research activities in UK,
supporting short term, highly applied and focussed research activities, as
well as some longer term projects. Training activities are funded by
international organisations such as FAO, the EU and USAID. NUFFIC and some
national governments have sponsored specific training programmes. Recent
training has focussed on short courses on subjects related to veterinary
epidemiology, animal disease control and risk analysis in which VEERU has
used its own staff and utilised its network of contacts to arrange for other
institutions and individuals to deliver those parts of the training courses
which require specialist knowledge and experience. Similarly, with regard
to consultancy, VEERU has consulted on veterinary epidemiology, animal
health and risk assessment using its own human resources, and by recruitment
of associates for specific consultancy for which in-house expertise is not
available.
The
animal health and production information systems developed by VEERU staff
have provided important tools which have been extensively used in VEERU
research projects. The support and development of these information systems
has generated consultancy in Antigua, Chile, Colombia, Luxembourg, Malta,
Surinam and Trinidad, as well as in the UK.
